Digital Voice Narration (DVN) FAQs
How do I publish a digital voice or AI-narrated audiobook?
Digital Voice Narration (DVN) includes audiobooks created using AI narration, text-to-speech, synthetic or virtual voices, and cloned voices.
To publish a DVN audiobook through Voices by INaudio:
Create your audiobook using an approved DVN provider.
Download the completed audiobook as an LPF package.
Do not modify, convert, rename, extract, or replace any of the files within the LPF package.
Create a new project in your Voices by INaudio account.
In the Audio tab, select Digital Voice Narration and upload or drag and drop the LPF package.
Complete the remaining project information, including your metadata and price.
Submit the project for distribution.
DVN audiobooks are eligible for limited distribution and will only be delivered to retail partners that currently accept digitally narrated titles.
What is an LPF file, and where can I get one?
An LPF is the packaged audiobook file provided by an approved DVN provider. It contains the audio and embedded information needed to identify and process the digital narration correctly.
You must upload the original, unmodified LPF package supplied by the provider. MP3 files, standard audiobook masters, API-generated audio segments, voice IDs, invoices, or other source materials cannot replace the required LPF package.
LPF files generated by Google Play Books on or before November 11, 2023 are not compatible with our platform. To resolve this, sign in to Google Play Books and generate a new LPF package.
Which digital voice providers are accepted?
We currently accept unmodified LPF packages generated by:
Audiobooks created using other providers cannot currently be submitted through the DVN workflow.
What if my narration uses a cloned voice?
A cloned voice is considered Digital Voice Narration, even when the voice was cloned from:
Your own voice
A human narrator’s voice
A licensed or commercially available voice
Any audiobook created using voice cloning, synthetic speech, AI narration, or text-to-speech technology must be submitted as Digital Voice Narration. It must not be submitted or identified as Human Narrated.
You must also have all necessary rights and permissions to use the cloned voice, including the consent of the person whose voice was cloned when applicable.
Why is my narrator metadata different?
The digital voice information is embedded in the LPF package supplied by the approved provider. Voices by INaudio uses this information to set the narrator credit automatically, so the narrator name cannot be manually edited.
We will also automatically add a disclosure to the book description informing listeners that the audiobook was created using Digital Voice Narration.
What if I uploaded a DVN title as Human Narrated?
Audiobooks created using digital, synthetic, AI-generated, text-to-speech, or cloned voices must not be submitted as Human Narrated.
If a DVN title was uploaded incorrectly, remove the existing audio and resubmit it through the Digital Voice Narration workflow using the original, unmodified LPF package from an approved provider.
Titles misrepresented as Human Narrated may be rejected or removed. Repeated or intentional misrepresentation may result in account restrictions, suspension, or closure.
Why can’t I distribute my DVN audiobook everywhere?
Not all retail partners currently accept digitally narrated audiobooks. DVN titles are therefore eligible for limited distribution and will only be delivered to participating retail partners.
Retailer acceptance and eligibility requirements may change. Selecting a retailer does not guarantee acceptance, and a DVN title cannot be distributed to a partner that does not currently support this type of narration.
Do I still need publication and distribution rights?
Yes. Using Digital Voice Narration does not change the usual rights requirements.
You must hold the necessary rights to create, publish, and distribute the audiobook. You must also have the appropriate rights and permissions for any cloned or licensed voice used in its production. We may request documentation confirming these rights during a title or account review.
Public-domain titles are not accepted under the Voices by INaudio Content Policy.
What if I have an AI-narrated audiobook from another provider?
We currently accept DVN audiobooks only when they are submitted as an original, unmodified LPF package generated by Google Play Books, ElevenLabs, or Spoken Press.
Audio created through another provider—or exported only as standard audio files—cannot currently be accepted.
Do I need an ISBN?
Yes. Voices by INaudio will automatically assign an ISBN to your audiobook, so you do not need to provide your own.
